  • Nigeria's Vice President tells Christians 'the Lord will fight for you' Tue 29 May 2018 By Eno Adeogun

Nigeria's vice president Yemi Osinbajo has promised Christians in the country that things will get better for them as God will fight for them. Speaking at the National Christian Centre's church

service on Sunday, Osinbajo - who is also a Pastor in the Redeem Christian Church of God - used verses from the Bible in his speech. He said: "So I say to you brethren in Christ and fellow

country men and women, let us go forward, do not look back, the armies of the enemy that you see today threatening to kill and maim…the claws of poverty and injustice you shall see again

no more forever, the Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace. "There have been times when the journey is somewhat tough, difficult and fearful; we look behind us and see the

armies of the past… the armies of division, which led to a civil war where millions died, the armies of religious strife that refuse to leave us, the armies of corruption and graft, those who want

us to remain in the captivity of ethnic and religious conflicts. "Ahead of us, we see the Red Sea, bloody conflicts and the doomsayers saying that the future will be worse than the past!'' His

words of encouragement came following a mass wave of Christians being killed by radical Muslim Fulani herdsmen. Last month, parish priests Fr Joseph Gor and Father Felix Tyolaha died in

an attack by around 30 militia men. Muhammadu Buhari/Twitter President Muhammadu Buhari and Osinbajo have made assurance that the government will put a stop to the escalating

violence in the West African nation, many Nigerians have criticised the government's response to the ongoing problem. In his speech titled, 'Let us go forward from anguish of the past',

Osinbajo also reflected on criticism that the country has got worse since the new government came into power. "God has said concerning this nation, that he is building a new Nigeria; a nation

where men and women of all tribes and faith, dwell in love and peace," he said. "A nation where our young people have ample opportunities for productive and rewarding work. The promises

of God are sure and certain - 2nd Corinthians 1:20 - 'For all the promises of God in Him are "Yes", and in Him "Amen". "This is the future and we are headed in that direction already.''

God is already fighting for us, but VP should know that God can also work through his government if they make it vulnerable for that.
